"IPHONE NAVIGATION APPLICATIONS BLEND CORNUCOPIA OF CAPABILITIES," Stuart Whitaker, September, 2009
Apple reports that there are over 65,000 applications available in the App Store that have been downloaded 1.5 billion times. Yet while 1.5 billion downloads is phenomenal, the average number of downloads for each of the 65,000 application is only 23. What's more, with many of the leading applications reporting millions of downloads--for example, Avantar reported that its fourth ranked free navigation application, Yellow Pages 2.0, was downloaded over two million times--we think it is fair to assume that the majority of applications count downloads in single digits.
Everyone who has an application that isn't in the top ten in free or paid applications--which means publishers of the 64,980 other applications--may be asking what it takes to get in the top ten. This summary report about the top ten navigation applications tells you what they are, who their publishers are, how much they cost, how they are rated, and more.
It should come as no surprise that the ten most frequently downloaded applications are highly rated. Application success can come from a variety of factors, including quality, focus, and strategic fit wihin a broader product portfolio. This report will provide insight into the top ten free and paid navigation applications.
